Transportation Planning
The Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan is being developed, in conjunction with the Planning Department, by the City of Fitchburg Transportation and Transit Commission, and the Transportation Project Engineer. Click here to view status of Comprehensive Plan
To develop the Transportation Element, the TTC is following the process outlined in the "Transportation Planning Resource Guide" that was prepared by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
One of the first steps, as listed in the guide, is to identify who the transportation stakeholders are of the Fitchburg Transportation system. This encompasses a large group of users who are directly involved in transportation and who depend upon the transportation system for the movement of goods and/or services. The TTC developed a list of transportation stakeholders and is in the process of reaching out to these stakeholders to collect information and feedback regarding the existing and future of the transportation system. The links below provide the list of transportation stakeholders that have been identified as well as some of the questionnaires that have been developed for outreach to these groups.

Goals/Objectives/Policies Workshop
The TTC conducted a Goals/Objectives/Policies Workshop at the December 8, 2006 meeting. This workshop consisted of a brain storming session to generate a list of ideas to be considered in the Transportation Element. These ideas were not identified as a goal, objective, or policy nor have these ideas been discussed in any detail by the members as to whether or not they will be included in the final document. However, the list has been separated into their respective modes of transportation.
Since the Goal/Objective/Policies workshop, the Transportation Project Engineer prepared a draft version of the goals, objectives, and policies for the Transportation Element. TTC has reviewed the entire document at several meetings. They have removed, added, and revised the language of several of the goals, objectives, and policies. The final version of the draft Goals, Objectives, and Policies for the Transportation Element has been completed and is being reviewed by City staff and various city committees. A joint meeting for all of the committees has been set for Tuesday, August 19, for a final review of the Transportation and Utilities & Community Facilities elements with the Plan Commission.
