Bicycle Transportation Facilities

Fitchburg maintains a large network of bicycle transportation facilities throughout the city including bike paths, bike lanes, and designated bike routes.  These facilities serve recreational users as well as biking commuters.

In April 2010, a Fitchburg bike map was developed as a collaborative effort between the City of Fitchburg and the Fitchburg Chamber of Commerce.  It is pocket-size and chock-full of valuable information to enhance your biking experience in Fitchburg!  Hard copies of the map are available at City Hall and the Fitchburg Chamber office.

 2009-2010 Projects:

  • S. Syene Road Shared-Use Path ~ The City highway crews have completed grading a future shared-use path on the west side of S. Syene Road to connect the Swan Creek neighborhood to the Capital City State Trail (CCST).  The path will be paved next year with a grant that was recieved from Dane County Highway.  There was a lot of involvement from the neighborhood and the affected properties on the proposed alignment for this path.
  • Badger State Trail - The City of Fitchburg was awarded a Transportation Enhancement grant to pave over 6 miles of the Badger State Trail. This will include a 10' wide asphalt path and re-decking of several bridges to meet width standards. Design by Schreiber/Anderson Associates and is being coordinated by Ahnaray Bizjak.
