City of Fitchburg Benefit Program
Besides a competitive salary, people choosing the City of Fitchburg will find a very comprehensive benefit package awaiting them, including:
- Health Insurance - Under the Wisconsin Public Employers Group, employees may choose from five (5) health plans in the Dane County area. The plans include Dean Health Plan, Physician’s Plus, Group Health Cooperative, Unity – UW Health, and the Standard Plan (Blue Cross/Blue Shield). Employee premium costs vary by plan. - Dental Insurance - Comprehensive dental coverage through Delta Dental includes orthodontics. Employee share currently less than $11 per month (full-time employee rate) for family coverage.
- Life Insurance - Underwritten by Minnesota Life Insurance, employees may elect from one (1) to five (5) times their annual salary in life insurance coverage. Spouse and dependant coverage is also available. Employees are eligible upon completion of six (6) months in the Wisconsin Retirement System. - Income Continuation Insurance – This is a short/long term disability program which provides employees with continued income in the event of disability. Premiums are based on your annual salary and waiting period chosen (30 – 180 days). The City pays a portion of the premium. - Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS) - A percentage of your gross earnings are contributed to this pension program. The current contribution rates (2009) are 10.4% for general employees and 15.0% for protective service employees. The City pays the entire amount for regular full and part-time employees. - Deferred Compensation Program - This 457 plan allows employees to defer a portion of their earnings, on a pre-tax basis, into a variety of investment options. Two (2) deferred compensation programs are currently available. Wisconsin Deferred Compensation Program; Security Benefit
- Medical/Dependent Care Reimbursement - employees may set aside money on a pre-tax basis to pay for qualifying out of pocket medical and dependent care expenses.
- Vision Insurance - Offered through DeltaVision, this plan pays the first $250 towards the purchase of glass or contacts. Family coverage is available. EyeMed Vision Care
- Vacation – vacation schedules vary based upon bargaining unit. First partial year is prorated. Most positions begin with 2 weeks of vacation annually; this is either 10 or 12 days depending on the work schedule for the position.
- Holidays – City Hall is closed to observe the following holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. In addition, the following half-day holidays are observed: Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. Additional holidays may be observed depending on the bargaining unit. Personal Holidays are also available and vary by bargaining unit.
- Sick Leave - employees earn four (4) hours each biweekly pay period.
- On-site Fitness Center - Opened March 2008. Amenities include: Locker rooms, treadmill, elliptical cross-trainers, recumbent bike, multi-station weight machine, dumb bells, medicine balls, and more.
- Other: Sabbatical Bank (non-represented positions, depends on years of service); Bereavement leave (depends on relationship to deceased); Longevity (annual bonus, depends upon years of service); Family and Medical Leave (FMLA and WFMLA)

The benefits listed above are for regular full-time positions. Benefits for regular part-time employees are similar and pro-rated based upon the positions full time equivalent (FTE) percentage.
