Open House 2007

Education is extremely important to the Fitchburg Fire Department because through education we prevent fires, tragedies, and save lives. We take Public Education very seriously and feel that it is just as important for an adult as it is for a child. Our Public Education Division is very involved with the businesses in the community, with the schools, and other community groups.

It is our hope that we have all of the information that you are looking for, if we do not, please let us know so we may assist you in finding the information. We are very interested in what you, our community, would like to know about fire safety and the types of programs that you would like to see offered to the community.

    CURRENT EVENTS

Smoke Detector Change 2010

A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm is the only thing in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whether you’re awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm is constantly on alert, scanning the air for fire and smoke.

Appliance Fires

Most homes have a multitude of electrical appliances ranging from small kitchen items such as toasters and microwaves to major appliances like clothes dryers and dishwashers. While appliances make our lives much easier, they also pose significant risks - including fire - if not maintained properly.

Elderly Preparedness

Focus on Fire Safety: Older Adults and Preparedness for Fire

Adults age 65 and older are at a higher risk of death from fire than any other age group. According to the USFA report Fire in the United States Fifteenth Edition, older adults account for approximately 32 percent of all fire deaths. Fire prevention and planning are key elements in reducing the risk of deaths and injuries from fire. In the event of a fire, remember that every second counts, so you and your family must always be prepared.
