Fire Department
Fire Inspections
The Fitchburg Fire Department conducts fire inspection based on local state and national codes, to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors alike.
The highly trained Fire Inspectors generally conduct fire inspections twice a year. The frequency of the fire inspections are based on the requirements set forth by local state and national codes. The number of inspection per year also can be affected by sprinkler and alarm systems. As an example, some office buildings are required to have a semi-annual fire inspection completed; while a storage facility that is completely fitted with an automatic fire sprinkler and alarm system may only be required to be inspected once a year.
Many times you will see the on-duty crew conducting the fire inspections as a group. There are a couple of reasons for this:
- Every inspector sees things differently. With the more eyes looking for potential violations, which makes your business a safer place for you, your employees and patrons, can be.
- Every time the crew conducts a fire inspection, it is used as a training opportunity. As they walk through buildings, it gives them a chance to look at the layout, and building construction of the building along with any known hazards that they may face.
- If the crew receives an emergency call, they are able to respond in a timely manner.
If you have any questions, you can contact any of the Fire Inspectors directly by email of phone between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
