The Fitchburg Technology Neighborhood initiative consists of three elements: the existing Fitchburg Center, the Green Tech Village, and the Fitchburg Technology Campus. The Green Tech Village is an innovative mixed use neighborhood which will include environmentally friendly building designs in keeping with the State’s Smart Growth principles and the County’s "Design Dane" plan. The Fitchburg Technology Campus, south of City Hall, features the Technology Transfer Institute and the Bridge Biomanufacturing facility, and will provide natural landscaping to serve as connections between parks, employment zones, residential clusters and neighborhood commercial areas. Together, the three elements create the Fitchburg Technology Neighborhood. The latest initiative toward implementation of this vision was Fitchburg’s designation by the Governor to be part of a Capital Ideas Technology Zone. Technology companies located within this zone may be eligible to apply for tax credits.

Fitchburg Center, located along East Cheryl Parkway, east of Fish Hatchery Road, has over a half million square feet
of technology development. This mixed use technology campus, adjacent to the Capital Springs Centennial State
Park and Recreation Area, is just ten minutes to downtown Madison, the University of Wisconsin campus,
and the arts district. Fitchburg Center is home to high technology companies including:

  • Promega Corporation - biotechnology
  • Berbee Information Networks Corporation - information technology
  • Bruker AXS - medical instrument technology

Unique multi-family and single-family housing clusters on wooded sites, like Forest Glen Condominiums, provide
vistas of the Madison skyline, E-Way, and countryside. All will be connected by footpaths to recreational, business,
retail, and civic services.

The 71-acre Fitchburg Technology Campus is slated to have 1,000,000 square feet of research and office space. Building upon the existing technology assets of the City and region, this mixed-use development offers the unique blend of technology research and high quality employment opportunities. Perhaps most significant is that much of the building space will be designed for high technology research, consisting of clean rooms and other research facilities. Redundant power and fiber optics infrastructure is already in place. There is also ancillary support office space with flexibility to house retail services that would blend the Campus with nearby housing development.

Green Tech Village Plan

The Green Technology Village is a planned business campus that will accommodate the growing high technology
activity in the Fitchburg Technology Neighborhood, located along State Highway 14. This model development has
a transit-oriented design to promote easy transportation and high-density development. One facility on the 284-acre
site will support agricultural technology business labs, a greenhouse, test plots, and office space. Other business
facilities planned for the site include a 800,000 square feet Technology Core and a 2,000,000 square feet Technology
Business Campus, both offering high technology office space. The site will also have residential and mixed-use
development, along with an open-space network of trails, wetlands, and woodlands that connect an urban plaza and
greenspace.
