How do I report a crime?
If the crime is in progress, call 911 immediately. If the crime did not just occur, or there is no threat to a person's safety or property, call the Fitchburg Police at (608) 270-4300.
Can I make an anonymous complaint?
If you wish to make a complaint, you do not always have to provide your name. It is often helpful if you do provide your name so that officers responding can get more detailed information if necessary. Sometimes we need to have a complainant in order to take enforcement action.
Where is the police department located?

How do I pay a citation?
Citation payments can be paid in person, over the phone or online.

What can I do about my noisy neighbors?
You can call the Fitchburg Police Department. Fitchburg has the following ordinance regarding noise. Please click here and scroll to 14.01(5) Noises Disturbing the Public Prohibited.
What can I do about annoying or harassing phone calls?
Harassing or annoying phone calls can be hang-up calls, calls in which the caller doesn't say anything, calls in which the caller is verbally abusive or harassing, or calls from someone who you do not want calling your home.
If you are getting annoying or harassing phone calls, tell the caller to stop calling you. If the calls persist, or if the caller was threatening, contact the Fitchburg Police Department at (608) 270-4300. Fitchburg has an ordinance against these types of phone calls. An officer will respond and take your complaint. If you know the number of the person who called you, or know the person's name, please provide that to the police. If the caller and phone number are not known, you can contact the phone company with the name of the police officer you spoke to and the case number. If calls continue, document the date/time of any additional calls and contact the officer that responded to your original complaint.

Does the Fitchburg Police Department offer a Ride-Along program?
We have a Ride-Along program. An interested person needs to call the police department at (608) 270-4300 to obtain and complete the Ride-Along request form. All Ride-Along requests must be approved by the Police Chief. If your request is approved, you will be contacted and a date and time will be scheduled for you to ride with an officer.
Can an officer come and speak or give a presentation to my group?
We are always willing to speak and give a presentation to your group. Telephone the department at (608) 270-4300 and make your request. An officer will contact you to schedule the presentation.
Do you offer tours of the Fitchburg Police Department?
We encourage tours of the police department. It gives us a chance to meet you and have you meet some of the police officers and see what we do daily. You will see the communication center, our jail holding cells, officers' briefing room and the police cars. To schedule a tour, telephone the police department at (608) 270-4300. We are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
How do I find information about neighborhood watch programs?
The Fitchburg Police Department partners with the active neighborhood groups. We can provide you with the contact person to inquire about joining the neighborhood watch on your street. If you wish to start a neighborhood watch program, contact the Police Department at (608) 270-4300. We will meet with you and explain how neighborhood watch works. An Officer will attend a neighborhood meeting to explain crime prevention measures and how to report a crime.
