Prevention, Inspection, and Investigation

The provisions of this Division are intended to provide for the City of Fitchburg rules and regulations to improve public safety by promoting the control of fire hazards; regulating the installation, use and maintenance of equipment; regulating the use of structures, premises and open areas; providing for the abatement of fire hazards; establishing the responsibilities and procedures for code enforcement and setting forth the standards for compliance with and achievement of objectives.

Under the direction of the Division Chief Richard Heft, this Division has four main sub-divisions:

City of Fitchburg Fire Department ISO Insurance Ratings

    1. Urban Service Area: Urban areas that are supplied with city water, Fire Hydrants, sewer and other urban services. Fitchburg is given an ISO Class 3 Rating.

    2. Rural Service Area "within 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station": Rural areas that are not supplied with city water, Fire Hydrants, Sewer and other urban services and are with in 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station. Fitchburg is given an ISO Class 7 Rating.

    3. Rural Service Area "beyond 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station": Rural areas that are not supplied with city water, Fire Hydrants, Sewer and other urban services and are beyond 5 miles of either Fitchburg fire station. Fitchburg is given an ISO Class 10 Rating.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Throughout the year, the Fire Prevention Division provides plan review and inspection services for a variety of special events such as; carnivals, fairs and festivals, fireworks, haunted houses, etc. For more information please contact Division Chief Heft.
