Park & Open Space Directory
The Fitchburg park and open space system consists of over 730 acres of parks, natural areas, trail corridors, stormwater facilities, and other open spaces in over 95 different areas. Fitchburg has established a hierarchy of active parks based on size, service area, and desirable facilities. The three levels of active parks are neighborhood, area, and community parks.
Neighborhood parks are intended to serve persons within walking distance (1/4 mile) and provide recreation facilities for young and adult users.
Area parks serve persons within bicycle distance (1/2 mile). They have a dual role, serving as a neighborhood park for immediate neighbors and providing opportunities for organized activities.
Community parks are intended to serve multiple neighborhoods and provide facilities in addition to those provided in area and neighborhood parks.
